Otago Mayoral Forum - December 2022

The Otago Mayoral Forum met for the first time in December 2022 to kick off the new triennium. Members elected a Chair, referred the Otago Local Authorities Triennial Agreement to member councils for ratification, and discussed priorities for the year ahead.

Forum highlights

New Triennium

  • The Forum elected Mayor Gary Kircher, Mayor of Waitaki District, to the position of Chair of the Otago Mayoral Forum for the upcoming triennium.
  • Members reviewed a copy of the proposed Otago Local Authorities Triennial Agreement 2023-25 and agreed to refer the agreement to member councils for ratification. The triennial agreement sets out how Otago’s councils will communicate, coordinate and collaborate for the benefit of the region.
  • All agreed to the schedule of meetings for the 2023 calendar year - this is included in the papers.

Priorities for the coming year

  • Members engaged in a broad ranging discussion on the Otago Mayoral Forum's role and priorities for the coming year, drawing on two letters circulated following council elections, one from the previous Otago Mayoral Forum chair, and the second from the Otago Chief Executive Forum chair.

Te Rōpū Taiao Otago

  • The December Mayoral Forum concluded earlier than usual to allow for a meeting of Te Rōpū Taiao Otago, a partnership between local authorities and Kāi Tahu ki Otago.
